Everyone knows that the first surfboards were made of wood. Some enthusiasts are trying to make them out of wood now, but it’s the exception. The most common materials for the manufacture of serfs remain plastic, fiberglass and epoxy resin. However, sometimes in the course are quite exotic materials.
So in San Diego was developed by the world’s first surfboard from algae. The author of the project was Professor of biology, geneticist Stephen Mayfield. In collaboration with Rob Machado , the world’s most famous surfing ecologist, and Martin Gilchrist they first developed the foam to form boards seffinga algae-based.
Three talented scientists joined forces and offered a unique polyurethane foam, obtained from oil, and algae. Externally it is almost impossible to tell the difference between the Board of a new and traditional material. Scientists are not going to rest on our laurels and are looking for ways to create a Board entirely of organic materials. Today, when plastic trash pervading the environment is a great way to draw attention to the problem of pollution and to offer a more acceptable alternative.
